Three weeks ago today we announced formation of the Mayo Clinic Center for Social Media. We believe our Mayo Clinic leaders' vision for the center is a compelling one, and the response has been overwhelming, as our News page indicates.

This week we are posting eight new full-time positions on our Jobs at Mayo Clinic site, seeking staff members to help bring that vision to fruition. Victor Montori, M.D., will be our medical director, and I will serve as director for the center. We will be building upon our existing syndication/social media team by adding:

• A Public Affairs manager, providing day-to-day leadership and mentorship, and serving a coordinating role between the syndicated Medical Edge content and the social platforms. Update: This position is now filled.
• Three Public Affairs consultants, one based at each of our three campuses. Their primary focus will be on-site strategic consultation and training for Mayo staff and business units. They also will have individual specialties, such as video, Spanish-language content development and social networking and adult learning/training. Their role will be both internal and external; helping our staff use the tools and platforms the center is developing to accomplish Mayo’s business objectives. • Two Public Affairs associates, based in Rochester, will provide hands-on support for enterprise-level social media initiatives as well as implementation/start-up assistance to groups within Mayo launching their own social media projects. Update: These positions also have been filled.
• Two administrative assistants will provide support for the center. Update: Positions are filled.
