Cincinnati-based Catholic Health Partners is the largest healthcare system in Ohio and one of the largest in the country. CHP operates more than 100 organizations, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, hospice programs and wellness/ fitness centers, and a health insurance plan. CHP has more than 37,000 employees and 7,000-plus affiliated physicians.
Five Catholic organizations co-sponsor 25-year-old CHP, which operates as Mercy Health Partners in five regions, plus St. Rita’s Health Partners, Community Mercy Health Partners and Humility of Mary Health Partners. Several of those organizations have been using Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in recent years to connect with key audiences.
In 2011, CHP instituted a system-wide social media policy and began implementing a strategic social media plan. The strategy includes Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and blogs. CHP formed a Social Media Champions! team of social media practitioners from across the system. Team members share best practices and lessons learned in monthly conference calls. They are planning a social media summit with a national speaker and author.
An early success came when the incoming president of a patient advocates’ group saw a LinkedIn discussion started by CHP’s social media strategist -- and invited him to give a presentation at the statewide organization’s annual meeting. This will put CHP in front of more than 100 passionate healthcare professionals.
CHP looks forward to connecting with some of the leading people in healthcare social media through the network. We are excited about learning from some of the best in the business and sharing helpful information from our first-hand experiences in this area of vast potential.
