The response to our invitation to apply for one of five scholarships to attend our Social Media Social Media Summit and Social Media Residency has been wildly beyond our expectations.
As of last Friday we had received 18 applications, which we thought was an excellent response, but by last night's midnight CDT deadline the ranks of applicants had nearly doubled: we now have 35 candidates who have submitted essays!
Scholarship recipients will receive air travel and lodging reimbursement to attend the Social Media Summit and the Social Media Residency during the week of Oct. 17-21, 2011. They also will participate in a patient/caregiver panel on Oct. 19 at the member meeting of the Social Media Health Network.
We're asking your help to narrow the field of applicants to 15 finalists. Just go to our Mayo Clinic online community (you'll need to register, but it's free) and browse through the candidates' essays. You can vote for the ones you think would be best by giving them the thumbs up or by sharing your comments.
The deadline for voting is midnight CDT Wednesday, Aug. 17. After that, our panel of judges will vote to select the five scholarship recipients from among the 15 finalists.
Please check out the essays and vote for your favorites. You can only vote once per candidate, but you can vote for as many candidates as you'd like. I'm sure you'll find them all inspiring.
