Orientation 101: Creating Your Account
The process for creating a personal account in the Social Media Health Network is the same, whether you're a Member or Guest.
- A free Guest account in the Social Media Health Network provides limited access so you can sample the Network offerings before joining. If you work for an organization that is on the Health Care Social Media List, it also lets you claim and manage your organization's profile. If your organization isn't on the list, with a Guest account you can submit your information to be considered for a listing.
- A Member account is granted based on your employer being a member organization. When you create your account, if your email domain matches that of one of our member organizations, you are automatically upgraded. We also will be making individual memberships available.
Creating your account is simple, so let's get started. We can worry about the Guest/Member distinction later.
Note: Please do not create a Guest account using the name of your organization. Guest accounts are for individuals, not organizations. Use your work email address and your real first and last name to create your account. Organizations belong in the Health Care Social Media List itself. Individuals have the accounts that manage the listings.
If you're not a "read the manual" type, you can probably figure out the process by just going here.
Otherwise, we have step-by-step instructions below:
1. Go to the Login page...

You can either click the Don't have an account? Join now. link or choose one of the social networks for easy account creation. For the next step in this tutorial, I will assume you clicked "Connect via Twitter"
2. Authorize your Connection
To join via Twitter or one of the other social networks, you need to authorize by entering your username and password for that network. Or if you're already signed in with that network, it might be just a click to accept.

3. Add your work email address
If you work for a health-related organization, add your work email address so you can be associated properly in the Network. If your employer is or becomes a member of the Social Media Health Network, you will be entitled to additional benefits, as your account will be upgraded from Guest to Member. If you are just joining as a Guest so you can claim manage your organization's listing in the Health Care Social Media List, we still need to have you use your work email so we can verify your claim.

4. Confirm your email
In the next step, check your email for the confirmation link so you can validate that you entered your email address correctly. Just click the link to confirm:

5. Explore and Enjoy!
That's an order, do you hear?

Once you have created your Guest account, you will have access to selected Social Media Health Network posts, as well as the ability to claim your organization's listing in the Health Care Social Media List.
If your organization is a Network member, you will automatically be upgraded to Member status on your individual account as well.
